Check out pictures of some of my work on my Flickr site
I have mostly made table tops (I am very fortunate to have a hubbie who is a blacksmith and if I nag him enough, he will make beautiful bases for me).
My friend Cate gave me the idea for this table, and the black and white cup is one of my favourite cups for drinking coffee. Someone said it looked a bit "Alice in Wonderlandish". Is that like being "outlandish"?
Talking of "outlandish" ....there is quite an amazing story behind this picture - read it at: http://wentan.wordpress.com/2007/08/26/tale-of-a-snake-and-a-mosaic/ (it is worth the effort, I can assure you!!)
AKA SHIRO KURO
Japanese for "Red White Black"
This piece was made for a mosaic exhibition at the Nexus Gallery, in Bellingen, my home town, in May 2008. It was inspired by my reading about Japan, in preparation for a trip there shortly after (see pictures under the Asia link on the left).
I had been playing with fusing glass in my new kiln, using broken glass which my neighbours have been supplying me with. They import blown glass from Poland, and pass on broken pieces to me.
The tryptich sold at the exhibition, which I was thrilled about, but unfortunately I had not got the chance to photograph it properly, so busy had I been beforehand, getting ready for the trip, finishing the mosaics for the exhibition, tying up loose ends at my work etc. So this photo taken at the exhibition opening, after a couple of glasses of champage, is the only one I have.
Lesson learnt: Take good photographs of all works when they are finished!
GLASS TREES
Also using recycled Polish glass, I have been making glass trees, inspired by the tall gums which surround my house in the bush. Even on trips out into the drier western country, I look at trees on hills and plains, and try to depict these scenes through the medium of mosaic.
I also make fridge magnets and small "tree pictures" - to see more photos and a description of the process - click on this link: FANCY A TREE CHANGE?
